Hi all,

Thanks for all your votes and for accepting me in the Avalon team. Following the tradition, here's a short introduction.

I'm 36 and live in Toulouse, in the south of France. I started playing with computers around 15, and never stopped since then. You'll find more about me at my Apache home page at [1] (which obviously needs some update with my new status), and I will concentrate here on my interest in Avalon.

I discovered Avalon with the pre-alpha Cocoon 2 two years ago, and this was a big "wow!" : I had been writing components for several years, but my home-grown framework wasn't neither as clean and minimalist nor as powerful as Avalon.

My first heavy use of Avalon (other that just implementing lifecycle interfaces) was in late 2001 when I wrote Cocoon's new interpreted sitemap engine. Building a tree of components wasn't that easy considering the "flat" nature of most applications. I rewrote it about 3 times before being happy with it, each time deleting 30% of the code because of a better use of Avalon features !

My activity in Avalon, which is for now mainly in the area of components heavily used by Cocoon, will certainly include the container in a near future : I'm working on Cocoon-based applications deployed in resource-constrained environments, and this is likely to require some container-related development to optimize things.

I'm proud to be part of this project which gathers people that I consider to be very talented. My hope is that the emotional difficulties the project went through will come to an end, because Avalon must be backed by a healthy community to reach the potential it deserves.

Thanks again,
Sylvain
