Applied the pach but got a build error due to the presence of
AvalonFormatter.java. I dropped the file and the build and test cases
work fine. One other thing - it is really necessary to have two source
trees -src/java and src/compat ? It looks like there was a
less-than-sucessfull attempt to seperate deprecated classes - but at the
end of the day the build still requires the depricated classes in the
sources under src/java. The build file does not seem to make a
destinction between the two. Merging these two trees together simplifies
the build process (there are no conflicts - have already done this
locally) and make the package a little easier to understand and
navigate. If there are not objections I'll go ahead and commit these
updates.
Cheers, Steve.
I am having problems with my mail client today, and I am trying to
go through Gmane, but I can't verify my address until I do....
I tried to say that due to the fact that we are removing classes,
it has to go under vote. And we need the proper community concensus.
I have the full change on my machine, and I can commit it when everyone
has had time to look over it. It is important to give people time
to react. Vote and action in the same day does not give people
adequate time. Esp. if they are in another time zone!
In the meantime, It does require the removal of the src/compat
directory.
The important thing is to remove the necessity for these classes.
PLEASE: NO FURTHER ACTION until we have heard from more people.
Removing classes is a big deal. I don't care *how* long they
haven't been in use.
