You've missed probably the best tutorial: http://www.lrde.epita.fr/~adl/autotools.html It hasn't been updated for libtool 2.2 yet, though there's probably not a lot that needs updating anyway. Otherwise it's up-to-date bar the odd minor release: This document was updated for the following releases of the Autotools: GNU Autoconf 2.61 (November 2006) GNU Automake 1.10.1 (January 2008) GNU Libtool 1.5.26 (February 2008) GNU Gettext 0.17 (November 2007) Cheers, Olly
