Dear listmembers, when building and especially testing automake, tons of messages are output, and, moreover, I get a decent amount of messages like ************************************* Only for demonstration purposes! fn99-1.0/12345678/12345678/12345678/12345678/12345678/12345678/12345678/1234567....(longer than shown) fn99-1.0/12345678/12345678/12345678/12345678/12345678/12345678/12345678/1234567....(longer than shown) error: the above filenames are too long ************************************* make: *** [XXXXXX] Fehler 1 error: the above filenames are too long PASS: fn99.test
or like (check4.tst is a candidate here ...) === Running test ./check4.test /usr/src/packages/BUILD/automake-1.9.6/tests/testSubDir checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c checking whether build environment is sane... yes checking for gawk... gawk checking whether make -j 3 sets $(MAKE)... yes configure: creating ./config.status config.status: creating Makefile config.status: creating dir/Makefile make[1]: Warnung: -jN in »make«-Verarbeitungszweig erzwungen: Jobserver-Modus nicht verfügbar. make[2]: Warnung: -jN in »make«-Verarbeitungszweig erzwungen: Jobserver-Modus nicht verfügbar. make[2]: *** [check-TESTS] Fehler 1 make[1]: *** [check-am] Fehler 2 make: *** [check-recursive] Fehler 1 Making check in dir make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/packages/BUILD/automake-1.9.6/tests/testS make -j 3 check-TESTS make[2]: Entering directory `/usr/src/packages/BUILD/automake-1.9.6/tests/testS FAIL: fail.sh =================== 1 of 1 tests failed =================== ****************************************** But at the end it says: ****************************************** make: *** [check-recursive] Fehler 1 make: Das Target »check« wurde wegen Fehlern nicht aktualisiert. Making check in dir make -j 3 check-TESTS FAIL: fail.sh =================== 1 of 1 tests failed =================== make -j 3 check-TESTS PASS: ok.sh ================== All 1 tests passed ================== FAIL: fail.sh PASS: ok.sh PASS: check4.test what leads me into a certain uncertaincy whether the final "PASS" is ok or not; I am just guessing whether it might be possible prevent make from spitting out such messages as they happen currently. I would be much more happy if it would say "XFAIL" in such cases. By this way I am quite insure whether the FAILs are expected or not. If anyone would be interested in looking into the log, just let me know; if there was an example how to cover such messages (an example would be highly appreciated :-), I would try to fix the remainder, then). Thank you very much for the work on automake and the support so far, take care Dieter Jurzitza -- ________________________________________________ HARMAN BECKER AUTOMOTIVE SYSTEMS Dr.-Ing.
