If you want a tutorial, then the answer is this: http://www-src.lip6.fr/~Alexandre.Duret-Lutz/autotools.html If that is unclear, wrong, or missing things you think it also needs, then by all means please write to the author. I agree that it's not sufficient; there are of course the three manuals. But still, a FAQ type of document is missing as well. IMHO it would be helpful if savannah.gnu.org offered projects a wiki of some sort -- I'd prefer contributing to a site that can be expected to last longer than an individual's commitment; and also it would facilitate avoiding too much duplication of information.
