Hello, Recently, after long deliberations and talks with the FSF, the Debian project voted that GFDL documents containing unmodifiable sections were non-free according to the DFSG (http://www.debian.org/vote/2006/vote_001). Please see http://people.debian.org/~srivasta/Position_Statement.xhtml to understand why Debian objects to parts of the GFDL.
Unfortunately, the license for the automake manual contains looks like this: Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify this document under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 or any later version published by the Free Software Foundation; with no Invariant Sections, with the Front-Cover texts being ``A GNU Manual,'' and with the Back-Cover Texts as in (a) below. A copy of the license is included in the section entitled ``GNU Free Documentation License.'' (a) The FSF's Back-Cover Text is: ``You have freedom to copy and modify this GNU Manual, like GNU software. Copies published by the Free Software Foundation raise funds for GNU development.'' So as it stands now, I will have to move the documentation into the non-free archive. Is there any way you might consider dropping the Front and Back Cover Texts requirements from the manual? -- Eric Dorland <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ICQ: #61138586, Jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 1024D/16D970C6 097C 4861 9934 27A0 8E1C 2B0A 61E9 8ECF 16D9 70C6 -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- Version: 3.12 GCS d- s++: a-- C+++ UL+++ P++ L++ E++ W++ N+ o K- w+ O?
