Explain that to some ported-to-unix programs that create files with spaces in them. It is a matter of custom. On Unix, the custom is to not do this. On windows (and with GUI programs), the custom is to do so. This is a bug. The refusal to fix it is snobbery. The fact that the solution is difficult gives a legitimate reason for not putting it high on the priority list.
