Automake currently doesn't handle that. However, that is just an
oversight -- it has all the (ugly) machinery to handle it. Could you
submit a PR? Or, better, a patch? (The patch would be to find where
the error is issued and change it to rename one of the output files.
Some care is required to make sure that this is done in a
deterministic way.)
