FWIW I still use Autoconf (actually, just autom4te/autotest) on machines
with perl 5.8.  These installations do have both Digest::SHA and Time::HiRes
available, though.

Though I am still using Autoconf 2.69 on these systems, as I'm not aware
of any Autotest-related problems that would be fixed by upgrading.

Happy to give new versions a go though.
