There wasn't any conscious decision to do that. If there's a real need for supporting 2.4, along with someone who can fix bugs, or at least help getting them fixed, it shouldn't be that hard to add support. However, Sun itself stopped supporting Solaris 2.4 on 2003-09-30 so I would think our support for it would be low priority. (I still have Solaris 2.0 on a CD-ROM somewhere, with Bill Joy's signature on the package. I even ran it on my personal machine while it was the latest Solaris version in early 1994. Ah, the good old days....)
