Neither interix or cygwin support pthreads to my knowledge. I personally would use interix in preference to cygwin as it has fewer documented security holes...
There used to be a project which was implementing pthreads as a layer on top of NT threads, but I can't remember where it was. Checking google says: http://sources.redhat.com/pthreads-win32/ Note that it isn't perfect, but might be good enough for your purposes...
