I'm not so much concerned about function checks (Functions tend to come
from the C library, and normally one doesn't configure a C and a C++
compiler to use different C libraries.), there are many more trivial
things, such as const and bool.
Given all the great work the libtoolers have done to support different
languages to be configured at once, I think this possibility should not be
ruled out in autoconf. Not that it will be easy, of course.
