I don't understand what you mean. I agree some high level macros such as AC_CHECK_PROGS should document their first argument, but certainly not AC_CACHE_CHECK. Internal details are not to be exposed, and we are not looking for a means to make internal details officials. If it turns out that people really need to adjust the result of BIGENDIAN, then we shall introduce something to handle this gracefully. But not this way.
