Uhm, IIRC Perl's use of configure was/is to make autoconf happy, and Configure
was the actual script from a different configuration package, IIRC, Metaconf.

Now, because of portability issues with case-insensitive filesystems (e.g.:
Win32), Perl could no longer make autoconf happy with configure so they named
it configure.gnu.
