Oh, there's also been some discussion of ways to stash the stat
information for remote cells somewhere that doesn't require contacting
them, thus making /afs a directory one can stat. This would help a lot of
file managers, that for some reason insist on stating every file in every
directory up to the root.
The code is actually in the AFS source, just #ifdef'd out, since NeXT
basically required it given the default behavior of NeXT's directory
browser. Now that AFS is being released as open source, people can take a
look at turning that on everywhere.
