Hm, then how about $$$RANDOM?  It remains `safe' for limited file
systems for which the $$ is first, and adds some randomness on with
regular systems.  *And* it avoids the needs to make the code more
complex.  

Well, you can answer there could be a clash between {111}{11} and
{11}{111}, but then with a separator, the issue is fixed :)
