Too late :)  But I don't think it is insane, the current CVS Autoconf
relies on Automake 1.4.  As long as we, the maintainers, pay attention
to what we do, there should be no problems.

Well, once we move to the new behavior, we'll fix the code.  What's
the current behavior?  No space added, but still a single long line is
produced?
