Let me expand on that: It would be really helpful if you could share with us: - a _verbatim transcript_ of your shell session when you tried to install Autoconf and/or Automake using the system perl, showing all steps up to and including where it went wrong, in enough detail that we can try the same thing for ourselves - all config.log files generated during that shell session - the _complete and unedited_ output of `perl -V` where perl is the system perl - specifics of which version of MacOS you are using (the text shown in the apple menu "about this mac" window should be sufficient) Thanks. zw
