I know that Word's usually good for paragraph and character styles.
However, I'll have to see myself how well Office 12 -- Office 2007 --
works with odt files. I used the beta some last fall, but it often
crashed on me. As I mentioned before, MS invited me and will give me
Office 2007 for free just for attending its launch February 15, some
five miles from me in Detroit. It's worth the effort. Then I can
actually test OOo/MS compatibility myself.

Since MS Word has no concept of page styles, that could be the source
of your problem. I have not tried saving an ODT file (containing
multiple page styles) into DOC so I have no personal experience to
draw upon. I think there is some trick to making this work properly,
but I can't recall what it is. Sounds like a good candidate for a
problem-solving section in the Working with Styles chapter, when you
get it sorted out.
