Thank you very much! I have just pulled and installed the latest master
and tested the update you sent. Thus far, it appears to be working well.

(A brief aside: I belong to the small contingent of mathematicians who
believe that *all* displayed equations ought to be numbered, as this
greatly facilitates navigation and cross-referencing. The conventional
practice, however, is to number only those equations explicitly cited in
the text.

In this context, I make use of

\usepackage{mathtools}
\mathtoolsset{showonlyrefs=true,showmanualtags=true}

This allows one to use the \verb|\begin{equation}| environment
throughout, while numbering only those expressions that are actually
referenced. The package is, however, somewhat finicky.)
