Thanks, may be I come back to that, but I'd like to get some feedback
from people who actually use the expl3.el style.  I'm not sure if
developers always make the right decisions about usability, especially
when they don't use the code they write.

I agree, "angry fruit salad" is bad when you're coding.  I think
AUCTeX's fontification might be OK when writing ordinary .tex files, but
when writing .dtx, less is more.  That was also my thinking.
