Your car consumes 3 gallons per hour, therefore your car consumed 26,352 gallons last year. I'll leave the guesswork to the sales people.
My car is not running 24x7, but I rather suspect that Google's servers are. Or perhaps they switch them off at night, you know, when people aren't on the Internet? Google uses huge numbers of cheap consumer hard drives, set up in RAID format in "pods". They don't bother replacing individual drives when they fail (the labour costs outweigh the savings), they just swap out the whole pod for a brand new one when enough drives fail. They do keep track of which brands and which models last longest and are therefore best value. But I am sure that IBM's Enterprise Data Storage Solutions will be cost competitive. :-) -- Martin Dr Martin Ward | Email: mar...@gkc.org.uk | http://www.gkc.org.uk G.K.Chesterton site: http://www.gkc.org.uk/gkc | Erdos number: 4
