If any branch ended up being to an odd boundary, HLASM would
also produce warning message ASMA212W for that (if using
base-displacement branches) or error message ASMA058E (if using
relative branch).

The standard rule is that if there's a reasonable chance that it
may work anyway, it's a warning.  But warnings should definitely
not be ignored.
