Amidst all the mixed responses to Puli, Endhiran & CWG song, it just occurred
to me this morning, when my wife was humming "Narumugaye" song from Iruvar,
that it has been very very long time since ARR composed a pure classical song.
Yes we have been treated with hiphop (doche) or ballads (Jaa re Ud jaa or Behne
De) or electronic stuff (Endhiran) etc, but it has been real long time since we
had a pure classical song. Can anyone recall which was the classical
composition from ARR. I cant exactly count "Bhor Bhayee", since it was a
recording by Late Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. I think the last classical music
based song (cant call it fully pure classical) that sound very Hindustani in
tone was "Man Mohana" from Jodha Akbar. And thats in 2008. The song from
Yuvvraaj (Manmohini) is a very short bit-piece like song that is more of
fusion, in its treatment, rather than classical. And Nammakameeyyaraa from Puli
is a slow devotional number.
I hope ARR does some classical songs. Something like Sangamam songs, Water
songs. Been long time.
