"if we approach things with pre-conceived notion, nothing can change the
mindset."

I truly agree with this. I don't think people were expecting a Waka Waka or a
Maa Tujhe Saalam or even a Maro Maro from ARR. If yes, then all these ideas
would have been expressed to him during composition process itself and not now,
when the track has been released. The problem is that everything has become
very political and competitive now. It's no longer about hosting CWG, it's
about hosting a better CWG than Beijing's Olympics! Why Beijing's Olympics?
Because it was a huge hit! If China can do it, then we can do better!

When ARR was requested to compose the CWG theme, there wasn't any talks about
comparison with any other themes whatsoever. But now that Waka Waka is a huge
hit, all of a sudden, we want ARR to compose something better than Waka Waka.
If Shakira can do it, why not ARR? Yes, Shakira could do it, because she didn't
have the pressure of being constantly compared to every Tom, Dick and Harry. No
ministers "approved" of her song and then turn around saying that they were
disappointed with the same. People just enjoyed the song for what it is and it
became a huge hit!

In my humble opinion, we have just forgotten where our priorities lie. Hosting
a CWG is not only a huge responsibility but it's also a great privilege. There
is no need to compare ourselves with our counterparts and go around bragging
that we'll do better than them. Instead, if  we just concentrate on hosting a
good games in the manner we know best, I'm pretty sure people will start to
appreciate them as well.

Few years back, i was in a gathering where people were sayin AR Rahman is
spoiling the present music scene with 'computer music' and all his songs sound
same with 'western beats' and no proper pronunciation.
I ignored it and later played this track called Poo Kodiyin Punnagai from
Iruvar. They all said...." look at those days music..what melody and each word
is so clear and soft to ears...these days rahman and other can't even imaging
to compose music like this....!"
to this i replied ..." This track is by AR Rahman ..from Iruvar.. .." they were
just dump struck and chewed their own words..
( for those of you unaware, this track sounds very retro like those in Black
and White
 days..killer track!!)
So the point is, if we approach things with pre-conceived notion, nothing can
change the mindset.
Commonwealth games has a not lot negative air now. What with scams, incomplete
works and New Delhi dug up...people are not happy. One theme song can't improve
things and it will succumb to pressures. Even if Rahman would have composed a
fast track like Waka Waka, Maro Maro ( Boys)...people would have said the same.
We are dealing with politicians here...remember!
So chill.
