As I listen to ARR's latest releases like VTV, Janne Tu, Ada, Ghajini, D6, CR,
there is a distinct "retro" feel to many of the songs. When I say "retro", I'm
not saying "outdated". The songs are fresh and innovative, but to me, there is
a feel of "classicness" to the songs that remind me of the songs I grew up with
here in the US back in the 70s and 80.....a distinct 70s classic rock and 80s
punk rock and new wave (British Invasion back in the 1980s) kind of vibe. Of
course, "Aaromale" is a more direct example of the 70s classic/blues rock, but
even songs like "Bhoola Tujhe" from Blue, "Rehnuma", "Fiqrana", "Kabhi Aditi",
"Nazrein Milanna", "Meherbaan", "Aye Bacchoo"(punk rock), "Lattoo"(disco),
"Sajna", "VTV" so much remind me of the songs I loved and grew up with during
the 70s and 80, almost like Rahman is paying homage to that musical era in the
West, which to me, was rich with melodies and musicianship. It's also why I
love ARR's music so much...bringing back a type of music that I truly love.

ARR is really a "my generation" musician. I love how he combines new musical
directions while paying tribute and homage to those who inspired him at the
same time. Classy, just classy!!!!
