I would like to say... generally artists follow a specific genre of music when comes to an individual album..... Only in Films composers are provided scope to follow certain genres suitable for the sceen/picturization... so it's not Rahman who decides the genre to compose....
However Rahman has certain specific mood to his creation which produces a different genre called "Rahman genre".... so if he is composing Rock/Pop/classical/latin/Western Classical/Reggae/RnB etc........... all are ultimately falling in "Rahman genre"..... I'm sure...there are listeners who doesn't listen to all Rahman creations like us.... but if you start a Rahman song which he didn't listen to before...he can assume that to be a Rahman song..... that is the signature genre......
