Hi Vishal and others, I disagree with the point of view expressed here. I have reasons to say so. I am currently living in Sydney, Australia. I have a lot of friends from here and I also had a chance to meet a few people who knew music very well.
I met this guy who had bought Slumdog Millionaire Soundstack's original CD instead of copying it. He had listened to it very carefully and was moved with every part of it, not just Jai Ho. He told me this music composer creates hevanly melodies and he also asked me if I could recommend some of other works of this music composer. We also talked about some other background soundtracks like the one of the movie "CRASH'. Its an American movie about how multi-cultuaral society has America become and how different people face racism from other culture's people. The movie gives a strong message about being tolerent while intercating with other culture's people. The music used in the movie is from various parts of the world. This guy seemed to appriciate every part of it. We both were really in love with some Arabic music played in the movie. Also, there are people at my job who liked Jai Ho very much but hated the Pussycat Dolls version saying they have destroyed the authenticty, melody and freshness of the song. They did not even mind hearing it in Hindi rather than English version of dolls. The point is that western society is very less known to us same as we are very less known to them. One thing I have noticed is these people do the things only if they like to do it. If they go to a movie, they try to appriciate it. If they hear something good, they try to find out what it is. If 'Couple's Retreat' soundtrack is worth listening (Which I am dead sure it is), they will listen to it. Of course not like us Rahmaniacs.
