Former IISJ student to perform at Rahman’s concert Arab News Razin Rafeek
JEDDAH: Razin Rafeek, a former student of International Indian school, Jeddah (IISJ), has been selected for the “Jai Ho” concert of Oscar winner A.R. Rahman, which will be held in Calicut today. Rafeek, who has performed in many musical and dance events in Jeddah during the past many years, is now an engineering student at the National Institute of Technology in Calicut. He was selected from among a large number of candidates, who applied for the rare opportunity from all over India. “The Calicut concert is a big event as Rahman won’t be performing in India for the coming five years after this,” said Mohammed Rafeek, his father, who is director of Crystal Arabia Plastic Industries in Jeddah. The estimated budget for the show is about Rs.30 million. The stage itself was built at a whopping cost of about Rs.6.5 million. “No television broadcast is permitted as this is a charity-based program,” the father said.
