If you remember, AR once said in an interview that he does not allow any sub-standard work to get out of the studio. Some of the songs in these movies you mentioned might be an exception for various reasons which we are not sure. But I feel that he might have not personally been there in the studio but would have definitely composed the tunes remotely and monitored the mixing. The main problem with few songs were that they lacked AR's class in orchestration. Still few songs like Udhaya Udhaya are thoroughly enjoyable.
