The relatively less-known RMIM Puraskaa <http://awards.giitaayan.com/>r are
an effort to allow listeners like ourselves to pick the best of Hindi Film
Music in a particular year after reasonably elaborate and cogent analysis.
The results of the third edition were recently made public and can be seen
here <http://awards.giitaayan.com/2008/indexen.htm>. While the Best Album
was adjudged to be "Rock On!!", A.R.Rahman was voted the Best Composer for
the year. There are several other categories as well, and the list of best
songs <http://awards.giitaayan.com/2008/songs.htm#songs> has comments from
the jury members which may make for interesting reading.

Am sure many of you would have several opinions on the results, so would
encourage you to write to the organiser of these awards Vinay Jain (giitaayan
at gmail dot com) who would welcome your views. In some sense, the whole
point of the awards is to let us, the average but non-random listeners, to
record our views of the year gone by, as opposed to the usual gun-for-hire
award shows that serve as a record of a year's quality.

Disclosure: I was a part of the jury this year. (With apologies for the
ego-link) My own views are recorded at my blog
here<http://quatrainman.blogspot.com/2009/02/rmim-puraskaar-2008-results.html>-
for instance, my own best album pick was Jodhaa Akbar (I know many of
you
have discussed the best of last year in this group, but this is on a
slightly broader canvas with many views, not necessarily all from Rahman
fans).

Thanks for the patient reading,
Ramanand
