Ever since I heard A.R. Rahman's work for classic Indian film Rang de
Basanti I've been a major fan of his music. One of my favorite songs
from that film, Roobaroo, is a beautiful blend of western acoustic pop
guitar and classical Indian singing.

That's why it was such a pleasure to see A.R. Rahman triumph at the
Oscars this year with a win for Best Music Score on Slumdog Milionaire
and Best Music Song for Jai Ho. Listen to Jai Ho here. Perhaps A.R.
Rahman's win at the Oscars will bring more attention to his music and
Indian music in general. I'd love to see more variety in the American
mainstream and indie music scenes. A.R. Rahman's work is a genius
combination of Indian and western musical influences. Only time will tell.
