Jodhaa Akbar was a massive release of an epic film. The whole country was sent
into spasms of excitement after gaining the knowledge of Hritik Roshan and
Aishwarya Rai starring together for a period piece. And it was all the more
smashing to know Ashutosh Gowarikar was directing it.
A.R Rahman was slated to dole up the soundtrack, and boy did he deliver! The
soundtrack contained five songs and two instrumentals and was released on
January 18, 2008.
Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah had everything that you expect to listen to while
picturing a king on a procession. The song featured about one thousand dancers
in traditional costumes, wielding swords and shields at a grand location in
Karjat.
‘Khwaja Mere Khwaja’ had a brilliant hypnotic feel to it and Rahman himself
provided the vocals. Other songs including ‘Jashn-E-Bahaara’ sung by Jaced Ali
and Mann Mohana by Bela Shende made this a pretty enjoyable album.

What a magnificent soundtrack – seldom does an album come by that satisfies
audiences of every kind. Even the grumpiest of people had a smile on their
faces after listening to songs from Jaane Tu. We put this soundtrack on number
1 for its consistency, universal appeal and genuinely charming lyrics. The
soundtrack has been at the number one spot on the music charts for several
consecutive weeks.
The film brought Aamir’s nephew Imran Khan to the silver screens who has now
turned out to be the golden boy of Bollywood. AR Rahman dished out the
wonderful soundtrack for ‘Jaane tu’ and is one of his finest works. Combining
genres of pop, jazz and retro, Rahman knew exactly how to go about juicing up a
romantic comedy.
‘Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi’ was the quintessential boy-sings-song-for-girl
track, had a cool breezy feel to it. The lyrics made every girl in the world
named Aditi glow and smile. Vocals by Rashid Ali were particularly delightful.
‘Pappu can’t dance’ has become a favorite among Indian crowds, particularly
little kids who start dancing with joy as soon as the song plays on TV. With
foot tapping beats and an indecipherable yet addictive rap segment, the song is
joyous and energetic. ‘Pappu can’t dance’ was very well shot in the film and
the guy who plays Pappu deserves a special mention who CAN dance.
‘Nazrein Milaana Nazrein Churaana’ had a smooth peppy feel to it and was sung
in chorus by Benny Dayal, Satish Chakravarthy, Sayonara, Darshana, Svetha,
Bhargavi, Anupama. ‘Kahin To Hogi Wo’ has the icky sweet 80’s love song rhythm
and ‘Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai’ sung by Shreya Goshal is a fantastic haunting
track, the parallel version ‘Jaane tu meri kya hai’ by Sukhwinder still brings
goose bumps.
Finally ‘Tu Bole, Main Boloon’, laced with captivating jazz elements is like an
icing on a very delicious cake. Sung by Rahman himself, this track is very
tasty candy for the ear. Any couple can identify with the lyrics of this song
and have a good chuckle.
‘Jaane tu ya jaane na’ is the number one album of 2008. Hope you enjoyed the
