I would not support restriction of sharing of software (and music). . Its a debate at its beginning. . The business model is changing or will be forced to change where the artists will be selling the music themselves over internet and I guess this is good for artists as they can retain control over their works. .
>From wikipedia - Radiohead's seventh album, In Rainbows<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Rainbows>, was released on 10 October 2007 as a digital download<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3>for which customers chose their own price. Although it was reported that 1.2 million digital downloads were sold by the day of the album's release,[44]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiohead#cite_note-tour-43>the band's management did not release official sales figures, claiming that the Internet-only distribution was intended to boost sales of the physical album.[44] <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiohead#cite_note-tour-43>[45]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiohead#cite_note-JOHNSON-44>Yet according to Yorke and also the band's publishing company, Radiohead's profits from the digital download of In Rainbows outstripped combined profits from digital downloads of all of the band's other studio albums.[46]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiohead#cite_note-45> [47] <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiohead#cite_note-46> Explaining the reasons behind the album's delivery and pricing scheme, Jonny Greenwood said, "It was an experiment that felt worth trying...[and] it's fun to make people stop for a few seconds and think about what music is worth."[48]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiohead#cite_note-HIATT-47> Another interesting article which was published last year. http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/10/04/the-inevitable-march-of-recorded-music-towards-free/ I do not essentially support illegal downloads, but if something can go wrong it will definitely go wrong. We cannot control internet and hence the piracy. Also the arguments in the article are based on the western music market. But if there is one Artist in India, who can have a lead, if and when the music industry moves to the economy of 'give music for less or free over internet and make money though concerts and endorsements', it's the Boss. I hope this truly happens and we have democratic platform for the artists, so the control over the creative work and the revenue are with the artists rather than the music labels.
