Thanks for the comments! Glad to see some of you agreed. Vinod: after my initial assertion that Patki has composed "mile sur", Gopal also asked if Banks had composed it. After looking up web references [not necessarily credible, I know], I'm a little uncertain now. Some articles say Banks did compose it, but others mention Patki as composer. Incidentally, this link [http://www.ashokpatki.com/jamgalasa.html] from Patki's website says he created it, and the opening of the song plays, so at least he seems to be claiming it. Perhaps Banks was also involved in some capacity. I'll let you know if I find more about this.
As Madhavan pointed out, Rahman himself is probably the best source to help us discover new voices, musicians, and music. I would have never heard of the likes of Leigh Ann Woodard, Maryam Tollar, the Continuum, or the now lost Shahul Hameed if it wasn't for him!
