Hi. As hot as a cake, The Rahmania Show ended just ten minutes back. It was
Singer Harini who was present today with Raihana , and some excerpts of her
PART i Speech is as follows :-
INTRODUCTION
As You all may be knowing, Singer Harini sang her first song for ARR in the
tender age of 13 in the film " Indira". The song being " Nila Kaigirathu". She
eventually got a State Award at such a tender age .
FIRST MEETING WITH ARR :- She along with some other Carnatic friends of
hers had come as a group, to His studios. ARR told Raihana and Mr. Noel to do
the Voice Test. he told ' Go and Pick a Good Voice". So, it was Raihana who had
picked up Harini. Harini thanked Raihana for that, for which the latter told
that it was all God's Will. Harini used to be a very crazy fan of ARR, right
from Roja time. She was very happy to sing in His Direction.
EXPERIENCE OF SINGING " NILA KAIGIRATHU " ( INDRA SONG ) :- There was a lot
of Voice Modulation that was needed for that song. It took me two days. When
she had gone to the Studio, she was presented the cassette in which Singer
Sujatha had already sung the song for her to hear and learn. All the
expressions, were later taught to her by ARR & Suhasini. Harini started feeling
very nervous singing in front of ARR. But ARR was very caring, and had
encourged her so much. He was down- to- earth.
ABOUT HER LEARNING MUSIC :- She Started learning Music right from the age of
3 years. Her Guru continues to be one Ms. Girija. She was the one who taught
her Carnatic Music. Then she started singing Annamacharya Kirtanas. Once , she
sang in front of Smt. M.S. Subbulakshmi, for which MS told her that her
daughter Ms. Radha would teach her music. She learnt how to sing in correct
Shruti, and underwent training in singing Keertanas, Devotional Bhajans In
fact, she had presented one of her demo Carnatic Song to ARR during her Voice
Test.
Raihana used to love all songs of Harini, as they had a superb Voice Quality,
Innocence, Divinity, Clarity . Her favourite song being " Nila Kaigirathu".
"TELEPHONE MANI POL SONG" EXPERIENCES : After a gap of 1 1/2 years, She was
called for singing her first song as a Heroine. ARR told her at the very
beginning that she would be singing a Track, and that it would come in the
Film. Finally, she got a call from ARR's Studio that it has been selected. Her
joy knew no bounds. That too, singing with a singer like Hariharan was like
being in 7th Heaven for her. ARR told her to sing Natural, Free - Throat.
STAGE CONCERT EXPERIENCES :- She had never done Light Music in Stages till
then. The diffculties of performing in Stages were that one has to stand and
sing, The Mike Quality was different. But she developed confidence in a slow
manner, and Raihana praised her that She was the Queen on the Stage Now.
HELLO MR. EDIRKATCHI SONG EXPERIENCE :- ARR told her " be Natural". he keeps
telling that quite often. He tells " YOu need not imagine or imitate somebody
else's voice. Just be your original". It seems ARR used to lovingly chide his
singers as " Sharada", when they do not sing properly. even Harini was the
benefcient of Sharada once or twice. The logic behind calling Sharada was that
in the film Sankara Bharanam, Somyajulu used to say ' Sharada , Sharada " to
the singer, who didn;t sing as per the shruti, . ARR was influenced by that and
he used to follow that stye. ( THIS WAS QUOTED BY RAIHANA ).
At the time of Hello Mr. Edirkatchi, Vairamuthu & Maniratnam were also
present in the studio, and both encouraged her a lot .
TIPPU 'S STRENGTH AND ENCOURAGEMENT :- As all may be aware, Singer Tippu is
her husband, and they both met in a concert, and fell in love and married. At
home, they hear the cassettes that they sing, practice before recording and
before stage shows. But do not make a habit to discuss only music always. About
10hrs - they either listen to reviews of their music from fans, and what others
say abt their singing. But Tippu has been very encouraging. As he knows the
entire process of recording, the time mismatching that happens, both of them
have been comfortable with each other's profession. She also says that the
support that she gets from her in - laws has made her flourish in her music
career.
