I haven't seen Golden Age but so many folks complained that it has been overscored (one of them said Bollywood-ish) that this was bound to happen. Anyway it's overall a good experience for ARR doing this project.
That's not a bad list of nominees there. Atonement and Eastern Promises are just beautiful scores. Kite Runner is pretty good too. It's a sad state of affairs that the recognition goes to either overblown music like Pirates of the Caribbean (and other Media Ventures/Remote Control Production projects) or non-thematic, drone-ish atmospheres. The former is lapped up by the masses; the latter by critics and award associations. To make things worse, most of the people who vote on these awards have no clue about what's a good score and what is not. Name and movie recognition is all that matters. Clint Eastwood probably made it due to that. How else can one explain the travesty that is Gustavo Santaolalla winning consecutive Best Score Oscars?
