Huh?!? Either she's mistaken me for someone else or she's using my name to
refer to someone else. Most likely, it's the latter. It was during my visit to
AM Studios to hand over our contribution to the foundation when Srini of Global
Rhythms was showing videos of a GR performance to Raihana and me that he asked
her to perform at the IIT show which was a week or two from then. She's
probably referring to Srini.

Subject: [arr] Rahmania Radio show - Singer Sriram on ARR (cont...)

            Hi all,

Part 2 of Sriram's interview was broadcast last friday.

Raihanah also mentioned Gopal's name during this interview... Read on!!

as always, excuse inaccuracies.

Snippets from the show:

"Rahman often calls me if there are jathis or dhols to be sung in a song... I
went there for Minsaara Kanna song. Rahman tried many different things before
he settled on the final one! Hari ji was there and he was improvising a lot
trying out whole lot of hindustani aalaps. Some portion of it is retained in
the song, which is why u can hear Hari jis voice in some parts"

Raihana asked him about the ease with which he hits high pitch notes, and he
replied
"Talking of voice range - Rahman and I have almost the same range.... Rahman's
slightly higher - probably half note higher... I had sung sung "Chill allavaa
(Thathi aadudhey)" from En Swasa Katrae.
That was a very good experience. In the closing of one saranam, by mistake I
landed on a much higher note than what was actually to be done. And that was
higher than my usual range! Rahman asked me "enna aachu... kural out-aa?"
("What happened? your voice is gone coz of that?")... But that higher note
actually sounded nice and he retained it!!! When I sing this song in concerts,
I usually sing it in a lower scale so that I can sing the closing properly!"

"I had also sung the tamil version of Chaiyya Chaiyya. But, my name wasnt there
on the CD and casette covers. Rahman had used Sukhwinder's voice along with
mine. In some portions u can hear his voice and in most of the places, my
voice. There were rumours that I was totally upset over this. I want to clarify
- I have no regrets. It is great to be a part of the song. Rahman used both our
voices because he knew that was the best for the song. It takes a genius to do
it"

Raihanah: Do you remember the concert in IIT where we sang Chaiyya Chaiya, with
lots of improvisations, as requested by Mr. Gopal Srinivasan? U were awesome in
that!
Sriram: Thanks! It was wonderful singing that song with u!
Raihanah: U were too good, using Dhols, jathis and carnatic style
improvisations! !! looking at all that, i thought to myself "omg.. thats
amazing much improvisation! Let me not compete with him!!" (Laughs!)

(and then Sriram sang that version for us!)

Sorry for the delay....
This week it was Ujjayinee who on Rahmania.... Mail about that, coming up
shortly!

Cheers,
Aravind
