Bollywood box office: 8th Jan
â€" 14th Jan
While critics panned the movie, the
audience has accepted the film as a
free flowing comedy, a certification of
Priyadarshan’s ability to make people
laugh. It has continued at the top and what was
first predicted as below average has quietly become
a hit.

Dhoom 2 continues raking in the big
money. Not much is left to be said
about this movie. Just that it is a
blockbuster, a hit wherever it was shown.

Following Dhoom 2 is Vivaah. We can
no longer call this a surprise. It
has gone past the 50 day mark and the
most delightful thing is that collections
have been increasing since the 40th day, something
that does not happen to any movie. Vivaah is
showing no signs of slowing down. In fact it
might just pick up and aim higher.

Kaabul Express drags along. It is on its way
out of theatres. The official DVD release might
not be far away. It cannot be called a flop,
but coming from the Yashraj banner, it certainly
is not in the hit league. A good attempt, good
reviews, but not a good show at the box office.
May have just recovered cost.

Meanwhile the latest release GURU got off to
a quiet star in the morning of the first day
with around 60% collections but by word of mouth
and great reviews, managed to rise to 90% by
evening. Almost sure to hit the top spot for
the next two weeks. Hit or superhit is something
that will have to be decided later.
