I have a Quad G5, Mac Mini 1.6 Core Duo and a new Macbook pro on three different locations and I am running Logic Pro on all the three machines and you are telling me that I am smoking something and giving wrong advice ? :D I get nearly 15 instrument tracks,real-time, on Mini if I don't use Sculpture. Sculpture brings down track count a bit depending on the complexity of instrument I am modelling. So try it out yourself . Your iMac is not a reference for what a new Mini can do or cannot do. BTW You won't see a major performance improvement between Dual
2.5 G5 and a Quad G5 as LP has not been optimized to use all the cores yet (atleast as of 7.2 and I haven't checked 7.2.1 as updating might put all my ongoing projects in jeopardy and might piss people off).
Finally if you hear "Melodyne" in a vocal portion of the song, that means software has failed or has been used badly. Any pitch correction software (Celemony Melodyne, Waves Tune or Antares Autotune) is effective only when you don't notice it. I would really love to know the techniques you used to conclude that "itonation correction and the interpolation algorithms" of Melodyne are better. I can go too techie on pitch correction as that is one of my engineering specialities, but if you are interested, send me an email off-the-list.
Since I haven't bragged in a while, here is my home studio http://singingphotons.net/music/MusHS.htm . What I do with it is more convoluted than a ever running cable TV serial :)
So, if you still feel I am giving a wrong advice to a novice, feel free to jump in and correct me.

i hav been using LOGIC since 3 years now...and i run it now
on a 2gig iMac with 512 ram ....yet it starts yeeling if i use
2 instances of sculpture and ultrabeat........with clicks and pops...
LOGIC pro is a the best sequencer available and u need the best Macs
to run them.....get a DUAL POWERMAC or A QUAD POWERMAC if u want to
exploit LOGIC PRO for music production.....
i am sure ARR would be using this setup only.....
LOGIC PRO can now be run on the intel Macs and i have heard good
reviews from my friend......but u still need OSX...no windows...
the LAST version for windows was LOGIC PRO 6.5 with emagic....and
SEL members (SHANKAR and EHSAAN use the old windows version still)
but i certainly think that there is no demo avilable on the
net.....only u can hear sound samples of EFM,EVM....old synths in
logic pro........on the net..../
if u wanna dive into LOGIC world ....go get a minimum iMAC....and
make music not noise.....

by the way i wanted to share this info that for mastering and pitch
correction of my tracks ....i relied heavily on WAVES bundles....
but when i came to know that ARR uses melodyne..... i tried it...
and i got better results...than i thought.....
also in RDB tracks melodyne has been used very intelligently by ARR
the itonation correction and the interpolation algorithms are
rocking...in melodyne
i would say Rahman sir is not only the 'guru of music' but also
the 'guru of sound technologies'........
long live RAHMAN sir ........and his grt. music.....
