The smile was a fraction of an inch long, as usual. And he was as sweet as ever when he walked across to the motley gathering of press corps during the muhurat of Sakkarakatti.
Wearing a self-patterned white cotton shirt, AR Rahman gave an impromptu interview. Excerpts:
What more could his fans ask for?
- "Ilayaraja's stamp is visible in every aspect of his composition," said AR Rahman when asked to comment on the contraversy regarding Thiruvasagam. "It is an oratorio," he averred.
- The music director who has scored music for close to 80 tamil films has just completed working with a Finnish band for The Lord of the Rings musical, which was unveiled in Tornonto on March 23. He has a number of projects n hand, the major ones being Shankar's Sivaji, starring Rajnikanth, and Mani Ratnam's Guru, starring Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Madhavan.
- "I want to do Tamil Films, but with every film of mine, expectations are getting higher," he added. When this reporter asked him if Sivaji songs were completed, since there are rumours of Sivaji downloads doing the SMS rounds, Rahman said he was unaware of the same. "Only three songs are complete, and three more are pending," he explained.
- Work on Sakkarakatti will start only after his current projects are completed, said Rahman, who also confirmed that he is the brand ambassador for Worldspace entertainment. He also confirmed that he will soon be releasing an album through KM Musiq, whic will be "alternate music for the mainstream audience". The United Nations Ambassador for poverty eradication said he was eager to contribute to social causes, by way of concerts and charity shows.
