J agmohan Mundhra’s Provoked will be premiered on May 19 at the Cannes Film Festival. The film is based on a true story of a Punjabi woman called Karanjit Ahluwalia who left India to marry a London-based guy, only to be abused.

She is jailed for murdering her husband.

Talking about the film being premiered at Cannes, director Jagmohan Mundhra said, “Our publicist L. Daniel and Associates worked out the whole deal. We thought that it would be apt to premiere the film at Cannes because of the kind of media coverage that the film would gain at the festival, it would not gain anywhere else. I am eager to see the reaction of the 2,000-odd audience that will be present at the festival. Also, Cannes is the best place for any filmmaker to market his film internationally.” He says, “In fact A.R. Rahman who scored the music for the film, also watched the film when he was in London. He said that the film had actually set him thinking. Also all those who watched the film gave me a very positive feedback, including the British minister of culture.” Mundhra informed that Provoked would be released worldwide in May this year.

Ask him if the film would be dubbed in Hindi for India and Mundra replies, “That will depend on the Indian distributors. Aishwarya Rai and Nandita Das have agreed to dub the film in Hindi if required.”
