Rang De Basanti release could be stalled

The release of Aamir Khan Soha Ali Khan-starrer 'Rang De Basanti'
seems to be in trouble with animal welfare activist Maneka Gandhi
today asserting that the film could not be released as producers had
not sought the mandatory permission from the Animal Welfare Board of
India to shoot animals.
Censor Board chairman Sharmila Tagore told a TV channel that she had
not yet recieved a No Objection certificate from the Animal Welfare
Board of India, without which the film could not recieve the necessary
certification, the theatrical release of the film could be delayed
from the orginal date of January 20.
Reiterating her charges against the producers of 'Rang De Basanti', Ms
Gandhi said, ''The movie was shot without the mandatory permission
from the Animal Welfare Board and the board sent notice to the
producers, they have not yet replied. It is a statutory obligation and
I do not see any reason why the movie should be released without
clearing the matter.'' ''I have not yet recieved the NOC from the AWBI
without which the Censor Board cannot issue a certification to a film,
which is necessary for it to release in the theatres,''Ms Tagore told
the channel.
