Looking back ARR's last hit movie in Tamil was released in 2000 (AP, KK, Rythm, Thenali etc. I am not counting NEW.. it had no class)
It's been five years, since he was involved in a decent Hit movie (Tamil) and four years in Hindi (Lagaan: 2001). Though his albums (released after 2000 till date) did not dissappoint his fans much, it has not reached out to the ordinary folks, who get to know of songs only through movies (read: hit movies) Personally, I feel he had missed an opportunity with Anniyan (& few others) last year and giving space to the rise of HJ, Vidyasagar in tamil industry Hope 2006 turns out to be a successful year for ARR.
