dilip kumar will look stupid cheapo if he sings "zaraa
nazaro.n se kah do jii" or "patalii qamar hai tirachhii
nazar hai" to madhubaalaa in mughal-e-azam.
jodhabai (durgakhote, mother of dilip in M-E-A) can't sing
"jyoti kalash chhalake" with kid dilip kumar.
akbar can't sing "ham us des ke waasii hai.n jis desh me.n
gangaa bahatii hai."
someone had said that mughal-e-azam songs can be exchanges
with any film's songs of that decade. I am saying "no". That
is what makes mughal-e-azam a period film that has become a
benchmark for all period films.
How much near ARR's music in jodhaa akbar is to the music of
mughal-e-azam will dictate the fate of jodha-akbar music/
film going a hit or a flop.

You are a making a compelling agreement but IMHO, you are confusing musical genres with period films.
Aamir doesn't sing "Kya Kare ya na kare" in Lagaan. Devgan doesn't sing "Vande Maataram" in TLOBS. Karisma doesn't sing "Mercury Pookal" in Zubeidaa.
If a film's music had to use only those instruments which were prevalent in that era, shouldn't a film also do the same. Forget about "Umrao Jaan" and Mughal - E - Azaam, is Gandhi shot in B&W. I know this is a ludicrous argument but that's how i feel after reading through some of yours.
I would however like to appreciate your honesty and willingness to look beyond the obvious.Most of us are happy to accept what we have got and live with it. I am STILL happy to do that but I appreciate your effort.
