Porayar: Indian music wizard AR Rehman visited a Tsunami-hit village near Karaikal on Monday, enthralling the survivors with his music while spending nearly seven hours there. Though not much publicity had been given to his visit, Tsunami survivors of about 11 fishing hamlets gathered at Kottucherrymedu village to enjoy Rehman's music. His private security guards had a tough time managing the crowd. When Rehman arrived at Kottucherrymedu along with popular singers Hariharan, Karthik, Chinmayee and Drums Shivamani, about 600 school students gave him a resounding welcome by singing patriotic songs composed by him. Addressing the children, Rehman called upon them to forget memories of the Tsunami and march ahead with courage and faith towards a bright future. He also ventured into the sea in a fibreglass boat, along with some fishermen. Karaikal MLA, AMH Nazeem, accompanied him. Later, Rehman performed at an open air music concert for nearly two hours. Rehman told the crowd that he had come to the village on his own to bring happiness to the troubled hearts through music. He said he was proceeding to London for the mega-musical production, Lord of the Rings. Earlier in the morning, he visited the Dargah at Nagore and offered prayers.
