Hi,
Most of the private operators use the song "Taal se taal" from Taal for testing the non 5.1 channels. That song is supposed to have the maximum range of frequencies from very low to very high. Not too sure about 5.1 as songs are rarely used in that format. but the speaker clarity is checked with the same song. Bose speakers, chose 'Opal lan ha re' from Lagaan for their demonstration in Chennai. They told us to hear sounds and true to their words, i heard sounds that made the song richer. I am not advertising, but the truth is that AR Rahman songs, sound much better on these higher end systems. And a notable difference is in the Background score. If you are an ARR fan, then no money is wasted on spending on a good system. The difference is not as great as Hollywood movies sound on 5.1, but it comes close. The other music directors (indians) sound the same in both ordinary and high end speakers. In Taj,(Chennai) where one of the largest audio exibition was held, the Boston speakers used the Taal song, and Rockford Fosgate used 'Fanaah' from Yuva for demonstration of sounds.
