Many of you may disagree, but I think that ARR's music lately has been
underrated a lot in the media and even among us. I truly believe that
some of his most brilliant, passionate, and most heartfelt compositions
have been heard only recently. Granted, his classics will always be
classics. Lately, four albums come to mind that contain some of his
best, most original, and most brilliant work - Meenaxi, Bose, Warriors
of Heaven and Earth, and Swades. The unfortunate thing is that these
classy albums did not catch on well with the masses, hence, highly
underrated. I really hoped that Swades would catch on big time, but it
didn't, and it still remains as mystery to me why. That soundtrack has
it all for anyone to enjoy, but yet, it didn't create the fervor that
we were hoping it would. Meenaxi too had some extremely catchy and
melodious songs, but never caught on. I do blame poor promotions for a
lot of the failure. I also forgot to mention Vanessa Mae's mindblowing
instrumental track composed by our Boss. Some of Tehzeeb's songs are so
so beautiful and original, yet, highly overlooked and underrated.
Legend of Bhagat Singh's Sarfarosh Ki Tammana is probably the most
underrated and highly overlooked deserving song by Rahman. That song
is a modern classic, a meaty masterpiece, an evergreen and timeless
cocomposition.
