I never seen any recent Rockchip based system to successfully start X server using the rkdrm driver. The best would be obviously if somebody could look into why the rkdrm doesn't works.
Have you actually tried EDK2? I haven1t checked, maybe there is a build for your board, in case not some hacking will be necessary (supplying the correct dtb and compiling it).
