Although OpenBSD does not support Banana Pi, I had a similar issue
trying to boot OpenBSD on it with both 2015.04 and 2015.07. With these
versions, OpenBSD does not even start.

In my case, I compiled U-Boot 2014.04 (or some variation of) from a
LeMaker (Banana Pi manufacturer) repo, which is maybe a fork of what was
the linux-sunxi U-Boot repo maintained for SUNXI boards. OpenBSD boot
OK.

Now, supposedly, Banana Pi is supported by mainline U-Boot (2015.xx),
but I couldn't make it work even when setting the 'machid' as Jonathan
suggested.

Try it with some version of 2014.04 for your board.
